Inside the studio

These are some images from my studio. I am working on a piece for a musician again and I thought you might like to see something unfinished for a change. It all starts with thumbnails, some of which are here.

Then there is need for something to paint on. In this case, cardboard that I primed black.

 

And then the painting begins. This is the state after the first session.  I'll put up some more when it is a bit more developed.

Gentle as one can be

Here are a few quick homemade shots from the hip of a CD cover I've recently done for a band called 'A Gentle Conversation'. It was, as always, the most pleasant thing to work with musicians. It always allows for quite a lot of artistic freedom and the Gentlemen in question are rather pleasant company, as the name suggests. I might try to get some better pics done soon.
It is quite a shame that so few full-size vinyl records are done today (or, at least, I don't get to design them too often) as the format of a CD, nice as it is, is just a bit small. Still, several pages of room for drawing is nothing to compain about.

Mother and Children

I am very intrigued by classical motives. They are easily recognisable and therefore allow for a lot of freedom because you already know what you are looking at. An image of something well known doesn't need much explanation. That painterly freedom is something very inspiring to me. So today I thought I'd go with the Madonna and the Child. Twice!
The first one is called "Black Forest Madonna" ("Muttergottes Schwarzwälder Kirsch").

 
The second one is simply called Mother and Child.

Oh Deer!

I do have a very sensitive side to me. I can prove it because I have painted an animal. This is my contribution to the mantelpiece art of the world.

I've checked it, it's true.
It is also what a lower-back tattoo looks like. There must be some sort of connection.

The ape in me

It's been quite quite quite a while since my last post. Well, here I am again and I am still alive, although I look a bit like this by now. This is so true that I even had to make this one the new header for the blog. Hope you're all well!
